Bidricraft is the fancy work of inlaying metal wire on the copper and steel
vessels. This is one of the finest handicraft in India. Peeping back to the it
could easily be grasped that the art was originated from the Arabia or Persia
by the stylish craftsman. The art was transmitted to India towards the
beginning of eleventh century. The art of inlaying metals wire on different
pieces of objects. The inlaying work is so sophisticatedly and aesthetically
undertaken that each and every creation holds the mesmerizing charms to
captivate hearts and minds. During the fifteenth century, Abdullah-bin-Queasar
a mastermind in the inlaying occupation had got adopted by India where he
had glided the work to the apex end. The craft has been named as Bidricraft
upon the name of the place 'Bidar' where it has been flourished to reach the
zenith. Mughal emperor Akbar had given great patronage to the art during his
reign who was driven by the charisma of the fascinating article made by the
artists .
The job embraces the setting in metal wire on the metallic product such as
bowls, plates, cups, platters, saucers , miniature tanks, surahi, pandan,
gulabposh, ugaldaan flower vase,. urn and jugs. The expert craftsman pop in the
threadlike metal line over the copper and steel wares forgiving them gorgeous
looks.
The process takes in a number of meticulous works like polishing, engraving,
inlaying and blackening of the metals and alloys. The articles on which the
work is to be done need to be well shaped and polished as the sharp chisel is
used for engraving for grooming it. Leveling the inserted filament after
entrenching it over the vessel is done by hammering through out the series till
it it is flattened.
The output is then go through the coloring process. Pitre, copper sulpahte,
salamonic and common salt are used for making a solution in which the product
is immersed for give sparkling touch to the creation. Gold is hardly inlaid in
the the craft products now-a-days due to the inadequate demand in the market.
Thus the artist can't afford the big investment in their craft resulting the
work sporadic. Exquisite products like creepers, leaves, flowers, and human
figures are are exotically designed masterworks can be found in the field. The
paraphernalia like swastika, lotus ,cross and icons are also manufactured by
the crafters.
