The people of the historic age were using hues and colors to print and dye the spud thread and woven clothes by themselves. The dye and pigments used in those days were not any artificial chemicals rather the they were detracted from vegetables and mineral bases. The organic colors like the colors from some fishes and other creature were also used in the dyeing process. The ancient people were known how to create red purple and some other vibrant colors. But red and purple were very popular among them in their age. Purple color of India and Lydia was known far and wide then. Apart from this attractive colors like indigo Lac, ochre, copal, aniline and other were used for coloring clothes.

Indigo: Like red and purple indigo was also liked by the people of all age in every day and age. Indigofera is a kind of plant which grants deep blue color. This is originated from India and called by after the country.

Lac: Lac was used as a dyeing material and resin before aniline. It is an adhesive substance discharged by an insect called Lac. The Lac insect secrete a resinous excreta on the trees as a cocoon and conceals it self in the hideout made in the trees itself. It was used by the women of the ancient age as enamel. they were applying Lac to paint their nails and palms. Later on the color was used for dyeing cotton and silk clothes. The secreted substances of Lac worm are collected by the weavers from the wood for dying yarns and clothes. Now a days, It is used for make varnish and while painting walls after melting. More ever, it is known by a new name 'shellac' today.

Ochre: The pigment is a mineral of clay and hydrated ferric oxide. It was known to be cinnabar formerly. Ochre has different colors, it may be light yellow, orange or brown. It has been in use by man for dyeing cloth at the same time it is also used for painting walls, idols and also used for cast marking on the forehead especially by the Hindus in India.

Copal: This is also a kind of adhesive derived from a tree called Vateria Indica. The resins are extracted from the woods to dye clothes in past days. This was commonly found in the western hills in India. But presently this is hardly used by the dyers because the chemical and dyes imminent to crafts man has replaced this antique color.

Aniline: In the past days people were possessing some basic knowledge of chemistry though they were illiterate and ignorant. Obtaining blue. Hence the people were in the early days using the color vastly for dyeing clothes. This technique was known to the Indian who had taught the Arabs while trading with them and again it was learned by the Europeans respectively.
