Handicrafts are preserved in the society not only as a birthright
succeeded from the ancient folks but there are many reasons for conserving the
art for various rationale which are akin to their religious, cultural,
sentiments and domestic need too. Some of the prominent grounds for encouraging
handicrafts are depicted below:
Cultural reasons:
Handicrafts are the hand-outs of ancestors which have been cherished in the
heart of every man who are in love with handicraft item. These are the tribute
to the old crafts and ancient people. The tren of inventing handicrafts is
passing down in the human society since ancient days hence, it is considered as
a symbol of culture and tradition of a community or race. Some handicrafts are
the social and cultural need of man. There are many ethnic hand crafted
products which are basic needs of some people of a certain community. Many hand
crafts are used in religious rites and rituals since the days of immemorial so
it is inevitable demand by the people. For example, the Hindus sail earthen
lamps during some religious festivals and wear women wear Mangalsutra after
marriage. Muslims require beads while spelling the name of Allah and the
Christians need Christmas trees on X-mass. And all these articles are purely
handicrafts.
Social reasons:
No matter the how much the world has filled with the electronics and mechanical
needments; still the demand for traditional handicrafts and hand crafted
novelties are in demand without being effected. And the production of many
handicraft products are in full fledge regardless to the technological changes.
Stone crafts, wooden furniture, ivory works, paintings, ceramics and decorative
are there which can not be done by machines itself. Though it is manufacture
some how than still people do not prefer the homogeneous products which are
relatively cheap and widely available. Rather they prefer exclusive, queer and
costly products which a handicraft connoisseur only can offer. handicrafts are
not only given preference for its oddness but for ostentation also. Hence,
these are highly required by the people through out the world. These types of
handicraft products not only enhances the grace and beauty of home but fetches
praise and appreciation for the house owners' creativity. Wall hanging,
paintings, furniture, appalique, swing statues, baskets, flower vase, and many
other handicrafts are must for every modern decorated home and houses.
Economical reasons:
In the ancient days handicrafts were a leisurely or pastime work and it was
meant for personal and domestic uses only. But now-a-days, this is occupation
of the some ethnic groups to originate the designs with which they are
concerned. The artisans who are in the respective fields are earning bread from
the trade. The work shop of the handicraft products have acquired the status of
small scale industries in some countries. And many skilled and talented artists
are recruited by the firm which means it provides employment. Some handicraft
profession are high paying as the products are highly in demand in the
international markets. Over all it generates good revenue from the work.
Therefore it is essential for the countries who are suffering mass unemployment
and disguised employment.
This is one of the significant reasons for taking side with handicrafts. Every
educate man across the world is conscious about ecology as the eco-balance have
been disturbed by himself knowingly. Pollution of air and water are under taken
by man purposely as he is seeking creature comfort regardless to nature and
eco-system. While producing the things of want and need he is causing great
depression to the environment. During the process of manufacturing of the
things of comfort and luxury he is adding insult to injuries by sound pollution
and producing those things which are harmful to man and some are fatally
dangerous for human beings. On the other hand handicrafts are one hundred
percent harmless and totally eco friendly. It is neither responsible for air
and water pollution nor sound pollution. More ever, this is made of natural raw
materials isn't it a good news?
