Casting and Smelting
|
|
The primary work of metal ware in handicraft are casting, tempering
smelting of metals and making beautiful creations out of them. Extracting
metals from the mine and pits are not necessary for the artists of today as it
has been a archaic and needless now-a-days. The artists can procure the
required raw materials form the retail hard ware outlet at very nominal price
for their artwork.
|
|
The opening move of metal craft is to melt the metals and alloys to
cast them over the wax model which is the fundamental design for the estimated
output. The liquefied metals are then dispensed in the hallow clay mould which
is already crammed with the wax that melts at low temperature and the metal
poured metallic magma replenish the empty mould. The clay pattern is cooled
afterwards and broken to dig up the metal cast from within.
|
|
The artists then work over the retrieved article and do the
engraving and etching works. The polishing work gives the finishing
touches to the products designed by the crafter. In general iron power is used
for polishing the iron ware. The polished article are given final strokes to
make up the defects and blemishes.

Smearing the metals are another art which is the enameling part.
The coloring of metals are in fact not the varnishing work rather it is smeared
by different metals and alloys. Smelting of metals are very common in
making jewelry but it is also practiced by the craftsman who create idols,
figurines, utensils, decorative and other metal wares.
